Pieter ten Hoopen

Go to list
Pieter ten Hoopen was born in the Netherlands but left his home for a life and career in Stockholm in 1999. He is a true intuitivist who lets a motive speak for itself. He never stage or arrange his portraits, which gives his photos an interesting perspective.
With a background as a photojournalist Pieter ten Hoopen knows how to pick up a situation from reality and create art. You could say that his photos are a mix between expressionism and photojournalism. Always with a certain mystery hidden in each portrait that opens up for different interpretations. Ten Hoopen has traveled the world and documented everything from prostitutes in Syria (it was during that project, he took all the pictures underneath a scarf to give a certain tone to the photos) and dog fights in Afghanistan to the loneliness of an exile living in Stockholm. He has been praised with numerous awards over the years, both as a photojournalist and for his art.

His images can be found in both Swedish and international magazines like The New York Times Magazine, Le Monde, Expressen, Dagens Naeringsliv and Svenska Dagbladet.
