Martina Hoogland Ivanow studied photography at Parsons School of Design in Paris and New York and holds a BA in Fine Art, Major in Photography. Hoogland Ivanow has shown work in most of Europe, Japan, China and the US, and her work can be found in major collections as Victoria & Albert Museum in London and Moderna Museet in Stockholm. 2011 she released her book Far too Close by Stedl.

Her images are a visual meditation on distance, both physical and emotional, of closeness to a subject and remoteness from a place. This focus is always apparent in her gorgeous and mysterious photographs, in which she often uses dark contrasts.

Even though she sees herself as an art photographer, she also often works for fashion designers and magazines.
