Hans Gedda

Go to list
Known for his intimate portraits of great contemporary icons, Gedda’s images have become part of our cultural heritage.
Starting out as a Swedish photographer’s assistant at a young age, Gedda soon attracted attention of his own, by creating unconventional portraits of very important people. Like Nelson Mandela, Margareta Krook, Ingmar Bergman and Andy Warhol, whom we have on display at the Palace. Or Olof Palme, Andy Warhol, Jimi Hendrix, Monica Zetterlund, Angela Davis and King Carl XVI Gustaf.

Gedda’s portraits are like time capsules, where space and distance seem insignificant. His commercial projects often inspire his portraits, and Gedda is a pro at capturing their presence and concentration with humor, always in black and white.
